Ron Kohn
Psy.D., Ryokan College, 1989.

"My experience as a doctoral student at Ryokan was really something special. The faculty was excellent, excelling in their abilities to teach the course material and provide case examples from their clinical work. It was great to have teachers who were practicing clinicians and not just professional teachers. The class assignments were challenging and stimulating, adding to both my theoretical understanding and clinical technique. I found earning a doctoral degree at Ryokan College a rewarding and gratifying experience which I would recommend to any working professional seeking to enhance their education and/or pursue an advanced degree."

Ryokan College celebrates its twenty eighth birthday this year and continues to grow as a humanistic institution of higher learning. It is exciting to realize that over the years, we made few compromises in our educational philosophy or objectives. We proceeded slowly and purposefully, learning as we went, and growing and evolving to meet the needs of our students without detracting from our original mission - to provide a supportive learning environment that stimulates creativity and spirituality, and brings forth the potential in every student.

Now, as we move through our third decade, we fully intend to take a new and extended path - a path which will enable our students to learn new skills and gain personal enrichment. We will continue to offer innovative courses in a variety of programs designed to benefit the individual and the community. The College will take specific and major steps toward becoming a leader in innovative education in California. This is our challenge for the years ahead.

Those who have been involved with the College since its inception, in 1978, have shared the excitement of its success as it has grown and matured. Throughout that growing period, the College maintained the concept of small classes and individual attention, and emphasized helping each student develop maximum potential. Our mission is to provide quality educational programs for adults in supportive, small classes to prepare them for professional careers. We will always remain flexible and open to change to accommodate the needs of our students and the needs of a changing world.

The excitement of accomplishment will continue to fortify us in the future as it has in the past.

That excitement is here now. We have introduced our doctoral program leading to the Doctor of Psychology ONLINE. We will be the only State Approved school in California to offer students the opportunity to complete their Psy.D. degree either in the classroom or online. The same long-time dedicated faculty and staff that have served our classroom students will now serve the online students. Students are also now able to complete their Master of Arts Degree in Counseling Psychology 100% ONLINE.

In the last 28 years, the College has awarded over 1,600 degrees at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Our graduates constitute an alumni active in the fields of Nutrition, Psychotherapy, Hospital Administration, Teaching, Management and Holistic Healing. Graduates have led expeditions to Peru and the Andes, to Nepal and China. Many have had their dissertations published both here and abroad. We are proud of our alumni and the quality of students the College continues to attract.

Nearly three decades ago we were but a dream. Today the college is very much a reality. Tomorrow, who knows, maybe we will be the leader in innovative education we aspire to be. Why not?
